A Transducer Protector is a sterile, single-use inline protective device fitted with a hydrophobic membrane. It is connected between the pressure monitoring lines of an extracorporeal blood circuit (arterial, venous, or dialysate pressure ports) and the delicate pressure transducers built into the hemodialysis machine.
The core objective of the device is twofold:
- Bi-Directional Infection Control: Prevents patient blood, fluids, and aerosolized micro-pathogens from breaching the pressure monitoring port and entering the hemodialysis machine's internal fluid pathway.
- Machine Sensor Protection: Shields expensive pressure transducers from moisture contamination, cross-patient bloodborne virus transmission (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV), and chemical corrosion.
- Accurate Pressure Signal Transfer: Allows unrestricted air column passage so that pressure fluctuations (+/- 500 mmHg) inside the blood line are transmitted instantaneously to electronic pressure transducers with zero signal damping.
When selecting a Transducer Protector supplier, medical device procurement officers must evaluate not only the unit cost, but the underlying membrane technology, housing burst pressure, connection security (ISO 80369-7 Luer compliance), and batch-to-batch consistency under continuous operating pressures.
